I was right!
The results for the first round of the French elections are in (and publishable!)
According to TNS Sofres, Hollande earned 28.6%. Nicolas Sarkozy was on his heels at 27%.
Far-right Marine Le Pen earned a shocking 19%. Poor Mélenchon was just a fad candidate… he stumbled into fourth place at 10.8%.
Bayrou followed at 8.5%, Eva Joly at 2.2%, Dupont-Aignan at 2.1%, Poutou at 1.2%, Arthaud at 0.6% and Cheminade at (?) 0.3%.
These numbers may change, so check out lefigaro.fr for updates. A personnel issue means that Le Figaro in English will not be publishing tonight, but check out the other links I put in my last post!
(Also, just a little story: I heard the election results half an hour before they went public as the No. 2 of Le Figaro was recording his statement right next to my desk! I almost told a friend without thinking… imagine if I got nailed with the €75,000 fine!)
